In Other News

In other news, today is Vincent Van Gogh's birthday!

Happy Birthday Vincent Van Gogh!

Maybe he'll cheer up for a change.  Everyone loves you now, man! I'm sorry that she didn't!
Come on, you're bleeding in the cake. Oh that's paint? Well that's okay, we're used to that here.  Love ya!

In other other news:
♥  Lady Gaga's song "Alejandro" is apparently number 87 on the itunes charts

These are pretty funny! I think they are really accurate.

I WANT THIS. I would eat golden meals every day and of course, when life gives you lemons you paint that shit gold

♥ the rain was pretty intense today and I secretly enjoyed it

♥ DEADMAU5 was on Gossip Girl last night.

♥ David Bowie. Enough said.

If you are in NYC, come see my friends The Years Gone By play at Webster Hall tomorrow night! They are super rad.  Jetlag Gemini is playing too.  I will be there! Come say hi, I promise I'm friendly!  I'll be the girl with partially pink hair, probably wearing a TYGB shirt and losing ten thousand scene points while I smile and dance and sing all the words.  I told you they were rad. Pop punk will live forever! I accidentally wrote "love" at first instead of "live" but it is all the same.

I Hate Hemingway: A Letter

I'm joking! Here is a short letter to Hemingway lovers everywhere:

Dear you,

I'm sure you are a smart person and all, but if you like Ernest Hemingway more than J.D. Salinger than we are simply not meant to be.

I know they were both assholes. I know they were both great writers. Oh man, phonies right? Remember World War Two? It's all good.
It's just sort of a Brand New/Taking Back Sunday thing. A Mary Kate/Ashley thing. A Mets/Yankees thing. A Britney/Christina thing. You have to choose one.
To me, Salinger is the Ash to Hemingway's Gary.
Also, Salinger wrote other literary works- mostly short stories and the novel Franny and Zooey- and IT IS ALL AMAZING. Go read "Teddy", and then come back and try to argue with me, okay? All right okay I'm done.

But seriously, : read his short stories. Why don't you start with A Perfect Day For Bananafish? It's from the JD Salinger short story collection Nine Stories. Yeah, click that link. You can read it in a PDF! I love the internet. By the way, I lost my beloved copy of Nine Stories last semester. If you happen to find one, send it my way...because the Strand bookstore doesn't have any copies, what?! Lame.

By the way, a letter sent to Hemingway by Salinger is now being displayed at the JFK Library in Boston. Check it out.

“That's the whole trouble. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "Fuck you" right under your nose.”  - J. D. Salinger

Can you tell that he was raised in New York City? haha!

“An artist's only concern is to shoot for some kind of perfection, and on his own terms, not anyone else's.”   -J. D. Salinger

There we go.

And Gaga is wearing it! Oh Lady, I thought you knew better than that. Dead muppets DO NOT EQUAL clothes! :[

Poor animal! He was my favorite muppet.
Even though I think Animal and Andy Hurley look the same:

Formspring Q&A

Hey cuties!
I've been getting some questions on formspring [keep it up] and I decided to post a few questions and my answers here every once in a while.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Who are your favorite designers?

Assuming you mean fashion designers: Vivienne Westwood, for sure! I think she is an amazing person as well as a groundbreaking designer, and she is mostly self-taught! She maintains personal strength and a political standpoint in an extremely looks- based industry. She also combined music and fashion in a way that made the two things inseparable even today. <3 I also think Alexander McQueen is crazy and brilliant, and Marc Jacobs has done some really awesome things. And a few of my very talented friends are great designers!

[I posted this answer four weeks ago. RIP McQueen]

What one thing are you exceptionally good at?

procrastinating

What's the most challenging part about Parsons? What's the best part? (:

The most challenging part about Parsons is getting all of my work finished, on time, to the BEST of my ability, on little amounts of sleep, haha! Also it can be tough to keep ahold of myself and my artistic vision when working around so many talented people and tough professors. The BEST part? Definitely all of the people I have met, from all over the world, who are awesome in their own way. I have learned so much both inside and outside of class, and I feel grateful every day to be studying at an amazing university in the most fabulous and unpredictable city. :]

This is what a Parsons all-nighter looks like!

What's your biggest aspiration?

aspiration: strong desire or goal; the release of a strong burst of air after some obstructions. the 2 definitions make sense together, don't you think? this is a tough one, but I have a few goals for my life: open a music venue/fashion boutique with my own line, to combine the ultimate creative experience for the soul; travel the world and learn as much as possible so i can give something special to the world; and inspire and motivate others to do the same!

Whats ur biggest regret?

"When you look back on your life, you'll regret the things you didn't do more than the ones you did" (H. Jackson Brown) I tend to agree with this. However, I try not to have regrets! You can't change the past, so just focus on trying to make the future better.

what's it like going to an art school? is EVERYONE in your classes super artsy/ talented? are ur teachers / other students harsh in critiques?

most people in my classes are really talented, but everyone is good at different things or talented in a different way, which i love. it can get intimidating, and some students and most of the teachers can be really harsh in critiquing. i love it though! i also wrote a little about my experience with school so far here: My Experience at Parsons so Far

What kind of clothes do ya want to design? What do you have to offer to the industry?

i want to design all kinds of things: i dream about all kinds of things. i want to challenge the way people see fashion and show how the challenges of the world contrast with the beauty of the human body. i also like to use the way that music and fashion are intertwined in things i design: hello performance artists and rock stars, i'm yours. honestly, my dream is to see something i've designed on Lady Gaga.! she's amazing and brings everything she wears to life

Thanks for the questions everyone, keep 'em coming!
xx, Nikkidee :]
